Completion of Kangemi footbridge brings relief to residents

The long-awaited Kangemi footbridge has finally been completed, addressing residents’ longstanding calls for a safer crossing over the busy Kangemi Highway.

Local residents, who have long decried the dangers of crossing the highway, welcomed the footbridge as a crucial safety measure.

“As a resident of Kangemi, I commend the government for completing this project after years of waiting. Pedestrians have faced serious risks crossing the highway, and this bridge will provide much-needed safety,” said Morris Luvuze, a Kangemi resident.

He further highlighted the bridge’s impact, particularly on school-going children, who no longer have to risk their lives navigating the heavy traffic.

Another resident, Mary Githinji, expressed optimism about the project’s benefits. “The completion of Kangemi footbridge is expected to significantly reduce the number of accidents on this busy highway,” she said.

While the footbridge has been hailed as a major infrastructure improvement, the evictions along the bridge have sparked public outcry, with affected residents calling for government intervention and fair compensation.

“We are left desperate and homeless I urge the government to consider compensating us and providing support since we have been the most affected by this development,” lamented Tanju Somwere, a resident and business owner in Shandi area who was affected by the evictions.
