The Golazo Company which was working with the late Chicago marathon and world record holder, Kelvin Kiptum, will set-up a foundation to take care of the athlete’s two children.
Marc Corstjens, a Belgium based coach from the Company who flew into the country to console with the family, said they were thinking of setting-up a foundation to support his children and also cater for their education.
Noting that all the athletes have a dream of developing themselves and supporting their families, the Coach said Kiptum was no exception and said his dream to build a house and having projects that would benefit his family will not stop.
He said all the earnings that were due to him will be paid to his family, saying it was a duty and respect from the Company to the late athlete, saying the Company cannot leave the family or let them down under the terrible circumstances they found themselves in.
“We are not just a Company that looks for talent and sports, but we also look beyond that, we look to the person behind it, to the family,” he said.
The Governor, Wisley Rotich, called on Kenyans to stop speculating on the cause of death, and instead wait for the police to conclude investigations.
He said so far the NTSA had said that the vehicle had no prior mechanical problem, Noting that there were many trees along the road reserve, where Kiptum and his Coach died, the Governor called on KeNHA to consult with KFS on removing the trees, saying the area had become a black sport.
The Governor said the family had already started burial arrangements, saying the late athlete may be laid to rest on Saturday 24th , at his home in Chepsamo Village in Keiyo South.
Barnaba Korir from Athletics Kenya, said the organization will work with the family of the Rwandese Coach, Gervais Hakizimana, who died together with Kiptum in his burial preparations.
