Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde has warned civil servants against taking bribes from innocent citizens so as to serve them.
Masinde said both county and national government officials should serve the residents selflessly, as they already committed to doing so when they were employed.
He warned that any person caught in corruption scandals will be arrested and arraigned in court, where they will be charged with abuse of office, among other offences.
“I want to warn every government official that they should serve the residents without asking for any favours from them. Every Kenyan has a right to be served in any government office, regardless of their background,” he said.
Masinde spoke at his Narok office today, where he asked residents to report cases of corrupt officials to his office so that they can be investigated.
“We are the servants of the people and not their bosses. We came from different counties so as to serve people in this county but not frustrate them by taking bribes from them,” he noted.
The commissioner advised members of the public to ask for an official receipt from the officers for any money they give and in case an officer fails to serve them, they should report to his office.
“It is your right to be served in any government office as you wish. The services that need money should be accompanied by an official receipt. Anyone who gives money for a bribe to get government services commits a crime,” he reiterated.
He also took issue with civil servants who skip their office responsibilities to concentrate on their personal jobs or go late to the office, saying they too risk stern punishment.
“I don’t mind the position you hold in your office. As long as you are earning money from the government, then you should serve the public as required,” he maintained.
