Murang’a county Commissioner Mr. Mohammed Barre has faulted parents who are not taking their children to be registered for the Huduma Namba.
Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Barre observed that majority of children left behind in the exercise are those aged three years and below.
He noted that some parents are just appearing for the registration carrying birth certificates of their infants.
“The exercise needs a physical presence of the person being registered so leaving a child behind means the child will not be registered,” said the administrator.
He encouraged parents to take advantage of the remaining four days to register their children saying the number will be crucial in government planning.
“Missing out in the registration will be a big blunder, as government will be using the number in doing planning among other services in the country,” added Barre.
In Murang’a, the Commissioner said more than 800, 000 people have already registered with Huduma Namba.
“In the county we were targeting to register more than 1.2 million people and the remaining number to hit the target I may say it’s because some children are yet to be registered,” he added.
Since Monday some parts of the county have seen big number of people coming out for registration as the deadline draws closer.
The time for registration, Barre said has been increased from 6am to 6pm so as to enable those waiting for last minute registration to be served.
Last week, Kandara Sub County led in the registration exercise followed by Gatanga and Murang’a East. The sub counties which performed poorly in the exercise include Kangema, Mathioya and Kahuro.
“Our officers are on the ground encouraging people to come out for the registration. Chiefs are even going door to door to ensure all residents of this county are registered. For those who are sick, the clerks are visiting their homes to register them there,” noted Barre.
The exercise, he observed, has been running smoothly without hitches lauding members of the public who have already been registered.
