A 13 year old standard six pupil from Igigo Primary School in Bunyala Sub County is nursing injuries after being beaten by her aunt after allegedly disclosing where she hid the uncle’s mobile phone.
Speaking to the press in Bunyala on Wednesday morning, the minor said she could not attend school this morning after being beaten at around 10.00 pm on Tuesday night.
“She beat me on the head, nose, hands and legs before I ran to the neighbour’s house who later took me to the village elder,’ she said.
Confirming the incident, the area Assistant Chief, Oscar Ayiera said that he received information from the village elder on Tuesday night that the minor had been beaten by the aunt.
Ayiera warned the local residents against corporal punishment, explaining that it is a criminal offence punishable by law.
“Right now the child has not reported to school because of the injuries and I am taking her for treatment,” he said, adding that necessary action will be taken against the culprit.
He expressed concern over the ill treatment the woman had subjected the orphan with whom she began staying at a tender age.
