The government has clarified that registration to own affordable homes on the Affordable Housing platform, http://bomayangu.go.ke/ is absolutely free.
In a Press release issued to the media on Thursday, Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary (PS), Charles Hinga informed Kenyans that no payments are required at the stage of registration, thus they should not send money to anyone be it for registration or anything towards home ownership.
“At the moment we are only registering potential homeowners,” Hinga clarified, adding that registration for the affordable housing program was absolutely free at every stage.
The only requirement is that one must be a Kenyan national aged 18 years and above.
The PS explained that the registration can either be done through the bomayangu platform where people will be prompted to key in their personal details or through any Huduma centres across the country.
Hinga said currently many Kenyans have already registered on the platform within this short period, which is a testament to the interest and desire that Kenyans have to own quality and decent homes.
The government in its big four agenda programme aims to build one million homes by 2022 through two programmes namely social housing and affordable housing.
Low-cost housing is one of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big four agenda and once completed, the cost of the units under the affordable housing programme will range from Sh.800, 000 for a bedsitter to Sh.3 million for a three bedroom unit.
