A 22-year-old Chuka university student was on Tuesday found dead in his house at Ndagani Tharaka Nithi County after committing suicide.
Dennis Mwiathi, a Bachelor of Commerce student described by colleagues as a silent and jovial person, and his acquaintances would not predict the reasons that culminated to a decision of taking away his life.
“Mwiathi was very close and friendly to his parents and everyone around him and we do not know why he decided to commit suicide despite enrolling for a degree program this year,” said one of his cousins who was speaking at the scene of crime.
Confirming the incident, the area Assistant Chief. Charles Njagi said that he was alerted about the matter at nine and upon arrival, he found the body of the deceased lying on the floor with a rope around his neck.
The body was taken to Chuka hospital mortuary as police launched investigations to establish the cause of his death.
The assistant chief further urged parents to engage their children and address stressing matters that may have befallen them, in response to the ravaging suicidal wave that has claimed several young lives in the country.
