Chuka University has over the years played a key role in boosting the socio-economic status of Tharaka Nithi county, through its elaborate Social Corporate Responsibility aimed at impacting a positive influence in the society.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony at the facility, the University Vice Chancellor Prof. Erastus Njoka said that through their Social Corporate initiative they have managed to partner with the local community on various life changing projects.
For instance, the university has so far planted over one million tree seedlings across the county to boost environmental conservation in the region.
Prof. Njoka also revealed that they have established water projects in various parts of the county including Ndagani, Rukindu and Nkuthika to ensure constant supply of clean water to members of the community.
The VC added that the university has also taught farmers on ways to increase the quality of soil through scanning it to improve the texture noting that this has drastically boosted farming output in the area.
At the same time, Chuka University has played a key role in improving cattle breeding through offering supplemental artificial insemination to farmers which has boosted milk and meat production in the county.
Prof. Njoka further said they have provided the local elderly and people living with disabilities with some of the basic needs that has helped improve their standards of living.
On their part, the students have assisted in the cleaning of Chuka town and its environs as well as the nearby medical facilities with a view to improving sanitation in the locality.
The institution of higher learning has also established bridges across rivers to ease movement of people and goods around the county.
