Chuka secondary hosts regional school games

Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner (CC), David Gitonga, has urged students to embrace discipline and hard work, emphasizing that success in sports and life in general depended on commitment.

Presiding over the opening of the Eastern Region Secondary School Ball Games tournament being hosted by Chuka Boys’ High School, the commissioner cautioned the high school students against drug use, warning that substance abuse would hinder their potential to excel.

Emphasizing the importance of sports, he urged the students to remain focused, be discipline and work hard as they pursue their dream careers.

“You do not need drugs to succeed. True success comes from dedication, discipline, and determination. Stay focused, work hard, and let your talent shine,” he said.

Present during the event was the Tharaka Nithi County Director of Education (CDE), Ms. Bridget Wambua, who underscored the role of sports in shaping well-rounded students.

Wambua encouraged schools to balance academics and extracurricular activities, noting that sports provide valuable life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and leadership.

“Sports are an integral part of education. They not only promote physical fitness but also teach students the values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Schools should continue supporting young athletes as they pursue both academic and sporting excellence,” she said.

The competition features various disciplines, including football, athletics, volleyball, and basketball, with students from different Counties battling for the regional championship title.

Excitement filled the air as the first matches commenced, with fans, coaches, and teachers cheering on their teams.

Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) officials present at the event praised the organizers of the games, and it should be noted that such competitions play a crucial role in identifying future sports stars.

The games will culminate in the selection of the best teams and individuals who will proceed to take part in national championship.

With the region’s best young athletes on display, the Eastern Region Secondary School Sports Games promise thrilling action and memorable moments, reinforcing the power of sports in shaping future champions.
