Christmas celebrations turned tragic in Rarieda sub-county after a 55-year-old man died following excessive consumption of alcohol at Rambugu village in West Asembo location.
The deceased, who has been identified as Onyango Yongo, is said to have passed on after he allegedly consumed traditional brews including changaa at the home of his brother during a Christmas party.
According to one of the neighbours Mr. James Odire, the deceased and some two other old men are said to have become tipsy before getting unconscious after consuming the alcohol.
The eyewitness told KNA that Yongo, who looked the most overwhelmed, started vomiting before they were rushed to the nearby Rambugu health center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His fellow revelers were lucky when they got treated and discharged.
The Nurse in-charge at Rambugu health center Ms. Lucy Owiyo confirmed the death of the old man, noting that he was brought to the health facility when he was already lifeless.
She stated that the death of Yongo seems to have been as a result of the alcohol intoxication.
Yongo’s body was later removed to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary to await post-mortem as police start investigations into the matter to ascertain the real cause of his death.
