Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in Kericho County have been urged to intensify their efforts in registering residents for the Social Health Authority (SHA) program.
Speaking during a consultative meeting at Kiprugut Chumo Stadium, Kericho Governor Dr. Eric Mutai disclosed that so far, Kericho County has registered a total of 200, 947 people under the programme representing 22.28 per cent of the population.
Governor Mutai has called on the 1,500 Community Health Promoters in the county to adopt a more proactive approach this year, emphasizing the need to register more residents to access essential medical services across various levels of health facilities.
Dr. Mutai commended the CHPs for their good work, noting they are the cornerstones of primary healthcare networks, which is a critical pillar in the provision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Governor Mutai revealed that Kericho County, in partnership with the National Government, had fulfilled financial obligations to the CHPs to ensure their morale remained high, enabling them to continue serving communities effectively.
“Further, pursuant to the passing of the community health services bill by the County assembly, we are establishing a policy framework to ensure timely payment of their dues,” added Dr. Mutai.
Other leaders present included the Members of the County Assembly led by Assembly Majority leader Philip Rono and Health Committee Chairperson and Kaplelartet MCA Eric Bii.
