Residents of Bunyala Sub County have been advised to observe high standards of hygiene following a suspected outbreak of cholera in the area.
According to the Busia county Executive for Health Beatrice Nakholi at least 11 suspected cases were reported in Port Victoria Sub County hospital on Tuesday.
“Nine out of the suspected cases were treated and discharged, the remaining two were admitted,” said Nakholi, adding that so far no deaths have been reported in connection with the disease.
However, after undertaking the laboratory tests, one of the cases was confirmed to be cholera positive, she added.
“We will wait for the next 14 days and if there will be no more reported cases, then we will declare this Sub County cholera free,” said the county Executive.
