China to Fund Botanical Garden in Bondo 

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) through partnership with the Chinese government is seeking to establish a botanical garden in Bondo sub-county.

According to the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Agong’ they intend to put up one of the most unique and novel botanical garden that will help in improving agricultural production in the region.

Speaking after paying a courtesy call at the Siaya Governor’s office, the Vice Chancellor revealed that they have already identified land where they shall establish that project at Kapiyo area in Maranda division.

He stated that in the botanical garden, they will put various tree species and horticultural crops together with varied types of birds and insects.

Prof. Agong’ who spoke to KNA, stated that the botanical garden will help in not only promoting agriculture to boost food security in the county, but will also generate revenue to the County government of Siaya.

He took the opportunity to impress upon the locals to continue observing the government directives on the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.

The Vice Chancellor revealed that as university they are currently offering online support for their students amid coronavirus pandemic to ensure they continue undertaking their studies.
