Chiefs urged to ensure those who impregnate minors are arrested

Deputy Head of Public Service Wanyama Musiambo has urged chiefs across the country to ensure that culprits who impregnate teenage girls are arrested and prosecuted.

Speaking during the official launch of the National Hygiene Programme in Busia on Friday, Musiambo said that teenage pregnancies are currently on the rise.

“We want to start seeing people being arrested and ashamed by being taken to court,” he said adding that all National Government Administration Officers were given the directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He lauded officers in Busia for having arrested four suspects in connection with the vice adding that they have been taken to court but are out on bond.

The Civil Service chief at the same time  said parents and guardians will also be held responsible for contributing to their daughters getting impregnated.

Musiambo however regretted that a number of local residents were not adhering to the government directives to combat Covid-19 despite having been sensitised.

He further urged  youth to use kazi mtaani funds prudently by investing in various projects for their future needs.

Busia County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said that the four defilement suspects have been released on bond terms ranging between  Sh100,000 and Sh. 800,000.
