Chief Kadhi Abdulhalim Athman has urged the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to heighten security surveillance during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Speaking in Mombasa when he officially announced the onset of the month of fasting and devotion after verification that the crescent of Ramadhan was sighted locally Monday evening, Chief Kadhi called for cooperation between the police and faithful.
“Ramadhan is a special month of dedication to do well and immerse ourselves in prayers day and night. The faithful will be performing the taraweh night prayers in congregation, and businesses will also run late into the night in preparation for Eid,” said Chief Kadhi Athman.
The Department of Water and Kenya Power and Lighting Company were encouraged to ensure a continuous supply of water and electricity to Muslim faithful throughout the country so they could focus on prayers and acts of charity.
Muslims were urged to take advantage of the holy month to foster unity of purpose, kindness, humility and love among them by observing the tenets of faith and teachings of the beloved Prophet Muhammad to realise the objectives of Ramadhan.
“I call upon all Muslims endowed with wealth to help the poor and needy among them, give solace to the destitute and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among the community,” stated Chief Kadhi Athman.
