Cherargei retains Senate seat

Samson Cherargei of UDA is the Senator-elect for Nandi County after garnering 284,374 votes.

Cherargei beat his only competitor Mark Kirwa of Jubilee who polled 20,900 votes to retain the seat.

Speaking after being declared the elected senator, Cherargei thanked the IEBC officials and the security apparatus for conducting a smooth election exercise.

“I thank my family and my supporters for believing in me and I promise to work hard for the betterment of the people of Nandi,” said Cherargei.

Meanwhile, Cynthia Muge of UDA is the Woman Representative-elect for Nandi County after beating two other competitors.

Muge, who was the MCA of Kilibwoni Ward, garnered 275, 500 votes followed by Stella Rutto, an Independent candidate who polled 22,732 votes and Truphena Korir of PDU who got 7,922 votes.

“I represent the women of my County and the country at large, I will endeavour to deliver what I pledged during my campaign,” she pointed.

According to the County Elections manager Silas Rotich, the county had 406,288 total registered voters, votes cast 305, 273 and a 75 per cent voter turnout.
