Parents and students in secondary schools in Bobasi constituency of Kisii County are poised to benefit from school bus projects funded by the area National Government Constituency Development Fund.
Three school-bus funding projects estimated at Sh. 21 million, have been launched at a ceremony presided over by the area MP Innocent Obiri at St. Mary’s Nyamagwa boarding primary school.
Addressing the parents, Obiri cited Bishop Mugendi Nyakegogi, Emenwa and Nyamagwa girls’ primary boarding schools as the first beneficiaries of the project.
He said unlike in the past when parents fully footed or jointly with the former CDF bought the buses, this time round they had been relieved of the financial burden.
Obiri said the move will improve academic performance in the schools besides assisting members of the local community who will hire the buses at a subsidised cost.
The MP who had invited the beneficiaries’ sponsor, Kisii Catholic Church bishop Joseph Mairura to pray for the buses urged the parents to support the project.
Parents had been grappling with challenges in procurement and management of school buses with some facing risks of repossession by the financier for defaulting on loan payment.
