CBC training in progress

The  Head  teachers and teachers in Kakamega Central Sub County have converged in three centres for a seven-day training on the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

Speaking during the opening of the training at Kakamega Primary School on Monday, the Sub County Teachers Service Commission Director, Daniel Kioko called on the 60 teachers to take the programme seriously.

“I am calling upon all of you to fully embrace and adopt the CBC as the training has started the journey and there can be no stopping,” he stated.

The Director said the new curriculum moves away from focusing on performance in the national examinations to also considering talented learners.

He added that the national government has already equipped the schools with adequate text books for various subjects.

The other training centres are Shikoti Secondary and Mwangaza Primary Schools.

The exercise is going on despite criticism from the Kenya National Union of Teachers citing inadequate consultations among stakeholders ahead of its rollout.
