CBC classroom construction in Voi Sub-county on course

The Ministry of Education has expressed satisfaction with the progress on the construction of Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) classroom, for Junior Secondary in various secondary institutions in Voi Sub-county.

Voi Sub-county Director of Education, Mr Okwatsa Newton, noted that the overall construction works were at 55 per cent completion.

Mr Okwatsa who is a member of the CBC Infrastructure Implementation Committee, was speaking, Monday, during an inspection tour to monitor the progress of the classrooms that will host junior secondary in January 2023.

In Voi Sub-county, five classrooms are complete and ready for commissioning, while the rest are progressing well.

“We have a total of 18 classrooms that we are constructing. Five of them are complete and set for commissioning. The rest are progressing well and will be ready before examinations start,” he noted.

Mr Okwatsa also hailed the Committee for playing an advisory role on various issues, especially on areas previously overlooked in regards to the construction.

“Initially, we had hiccups in three schools, where construction had not commenced. Interventions by the Committee have borne results and we are happy,” he said.

He lauded the local contractors for sticking to the timelines while expressing confidence that they are up to the task, to ensure they deliver the projects on time.

During the progress assessment tour, the team visited Voi Boys High School, Mwakitawa Girls Secondary School, New Maungu Girls Secondary School, Marungu Secondary School and Mwangea Boys Secondary School.

With the secondary school learner population expected to rise after transition from primary, the national government is implementing a plan to have additional classrooms to progressively expand the capacity of all secondary schools.

The pioneer CBC Class is in Grade Five (5) and should transition to Grade Six (6) in May this year.

The class should complete their primary education by December, meaning that they will be joining junior secondary in January 2023.
