Butere vulnerable households get free farm inputs

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has distributed free fertilizer and maize seeds to farmers in Butere Sub-County to boost food security in the area.

The programme aims to support low-income families, women, widows, and Persons with Disabilities by ensuring access to essential farm inputs during the planting season.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Governor Barasa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and food security.

“Our goal is to empower small-scale farmers by providing them with the necessary resources to increase yields and improve their livelihoods,” he stated.

The initiative, which will cover all sub-counties in Kakamega, is part of a broader strategy to boost food production and uplift vulnerable communities.

Beneficiaries in Butere expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting how the free inputs would ease the financial burden of farming and contribute to better harvests.

The Governor said agricultural officers have been deployed to oversee the fair distribution of inputs and provide farmers with guidance on best farming practices.

The government has assured that more farmers would continue receiving support in the coming weeks as the program progresses across the county.

“With the rainy season and the timely distribution of fertilizers and maize seeds, we expect to have a significant impact on food production by reinforcing Kakamega County’s efforts to achieve sustainable agricultural growth,” He noted.

Over 1,000 households are expected to receive the farm inputs in all 12 sub-counties in the region.
