The Busia County Department of Health and Sanitation has received a major boost following the delivery of haematology and chemistry commodities worth sh10 million from Prime Health Pharma Limited.
The supplies will ensure uninterrupted provision of services at the Busia County Referral Hospital (BCRH) and Sub County Hospitals laboratories among them Khunyangu, Port Victoria, Alupe and Nambale.
The consignment was received at the BCRH by the Chief Officer Health and Sanitation Dr. Isaac Omeri on behalf of the County Government from the General Manager Prime Health Pharma Limited Morris Kariuki.
Omeri thanked the company for implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the County Government to provide medical equipment to public health facilities on placement basis.
“We have been running behind in terms of conducting the tests that are crucial in patient management. It is our humble request to Prime Health Pharma Limited management to ensure that it sustains the supply to prevent interruption of services,” he said.
He further added that: “The National Government through the Presidential directive is going to give more equipment to our hospitals. This means that our lab services are going to improve in terms of quality and availability of services.”
He was accompanied by the County Director of Medical Services Dr Janerose Ambuchi and the County Laboratory Commodity Officer Fridah Sirima.
Ambuchi said public hospitals will now be able to offer diagnostic services to patients who had been forced to seek services from other health facilities.
“We are happy to receive reagents that had been missing for some time because of the stock out. We have been sending clients to hospitals including Aga khan which is costly for them,” she said.
She added that: “Having these tests being done in our hospitals is a source of revenue for our County and going forward we will definitely produce more money to buy reagents.”
Sirima emphasized that the reagents will allow laboratory personnel to provide quality services to patients in various hospitals across the County.
In line with the MoU, placement means that the supplier will be engaged in supply and maintenance of the machines while the County Government will only procure reagents from the company supplying the equipment.
