Busia government signs MoU with Alupe university for healthcare training

The Busia County Department of Health and Sanitation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Alupe University, establishing a formal collaboration with the institution’s School of Health Sciences.

Officiating the signing ceremony, area Deputy Governor and also the CECM for department of Health and Sanitation Arthur Odera, emphasized the county’s commitment to supporting medical education by providing access to hospital facilities for practical training.

“Our commitment is undoubted and this partnership will ensure that healthcare students receive hands-on experience in our facilities, meeting required standards while building vital relationships with our medical fraternity,” he stated.

The collaboration aims to strengthen the practical aspects of medical training, allowing students to gain real-world experience in county health facilities under the supervision of experienced healthcare professionals.

Alupe University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Barasa, welcomed the partnership, noting that it marked a significant milestone for the institution.

“This signing is crucial for our program. We’ve come a long way, and we’re looking forward to leveraging this relationship to enhance our research capabilities and serve the community of Busia and beyond,” he remarked.

Hence, the MoU is expected to benefit both institutions, while improving healthcare education and service delivery in the region.

Others present included Dr. Susan Outa (Chief Officer for Public Health), Dr. Janerose Ambuchi (Director Curative and Rehabilitative services), CHMT and SCHMT members, together with the University leadership fraternity.
