Kitui To Conduct Burials Within Three Days

Kitui County Covid-19 Emergency Response Committee has directed that burials shall be conducted within three days as part of Covid-19 containment measures.

In its effort to actualize the key directives arising out of the Presidential address on the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Committee noted that Kitui County has seen a sharp increase of Covid-19 related infections, admissions and mortality related to the pandemic.

The Committee underscored the need for the public not to relent in the fight against Covid-19 and particularly this deadly third wave.

In a joint communique issued on Thursday by Governor Charity Ngilu and County Commissioner John Ondego, the committee said that it will reinforce Ministry of Health Guidelines on Covid-19.

“The infection and prevention control guidelines must be observed in all congregation settings including churches, mosques, market places and the public transport sector,” said Ondego, who read the communique.

The committee agreed to put up a communication structure to assist in relaying information on the Covid-19 vaccine to the community through local radio stations and clear myths around the vaccine.

“We shall convene meetings with the business community, transport sector officials, bar and restaurant owners to sensitize them on the need for Covid-19 prevention and control,” said Ondego.

The County Commissioner reiterated the committee’s resolve to form multi-agency committees which will include religious leaders with the sole aim of cascading information effectively to the community.

He further said that there will be a robust mobilization campaign for vaccination in all the Sub-Counties.

Ondego reminded residents to take individual responsibility of washing hands, keeping social distance and wearing masks in public places in order to help in the fight against Covid-19.
