Bungoma County commissioner Samuel Kimiti has banned Disco Matanga as one of the measures the county has taken to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Kimiti directed that no loud music should be played at funerals as music plays a key role in pulling crowds adding that the dead should be buried within 72 hours as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He said the ban will not only help prevent the spread of Covid-19 but also early pregnancies among minors.
He called on Bungoma residents to strictly follow the guidelines put in place by the Ministry of Health.
He warned that his administration will not hesitate to confiscate music equipment from those who defy the order and continue to play loud music at funerals at night.
He said police have also been put on the alert to arrest anybody violating health protocols put in place by the Ministry of Health to curb the spread of the corona virus.
On Wednesday the police arrested 30 people who were flouting Covid-19 guidelines and walking about in town without wearing masks. He said those arrested will be arraigned in court.
He also put on notice Matatu operators flouting Covid-19 rules and carrying more than 60 per cent passenger capacity that is recommended.
Kimiti also directed bar owners to strictly adhere to stipulated hours and observe the set rules to avoid endangering their clients.
“We have some bar owners who are still running their businesses even after hours, if spotted don’t blame us,’’ he said.
The County Commissioner asked residents to go for the Covid-19 jab.
