Two young brothers from Kinyase village in Kericho County died Wednesday after they were hit by a speeding vehicle as they walked home from school.
Six years old class one pupil Alex Kipkosgei died on the spot while his class 7 brother Mark Kipchumba succumbed to injuries later in the night while undergoing treatment at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret where he had been referred from Kericho County Referral Hospital.
The two were walking home in the evening and were just 200 meters away from the school when the accident happened.
Fredrick Kosgei, a 21 years old mechanic, who was knocked down by the same vehicle while he serviced a lorry by the roadside also lost his life.
The accident happened after a Toyota Land Cruiser KAV 916 B which was heading towards Ainamoi from Kericho town lost control and hit the three before ramming into a shop, injuring an attendant, Emily Chepkemoi, 26 years, who is now receiving treatment at Kericho referral hospital.
Mr. Willy Mutai, an uncle to the deceased siblings said the family has lost two brilliant young boys noting they were top performers at Progressive Chepchep Academy and were disciplined.
In his condolences, Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, who is also a relative to the family said he was devastated by the loss. “I am lost for words to describe the loss and cannot manage to comment at the moment,” he said.
