Boy Kills Brother Over Use of Kitchen Garden

Residents of Nyakeore village, Nyamira South Sub County in Nyamira County are in mourning after a 16-year-old boy killed his 14 years old brother with a jembe.

According to the boy’s elder brother Johnstone Ombuna, Clinton Obanyi, a class 7 pupil at Nyekeore Primary school was killed by his brother Daniel Mecha, after an argument ensued over utilization of a piece of kitchen garden that they both claimed to grow crops during this Covid -19 period.

On Friday afternoon   Ombuma said the land had been cultivated by the late Clinton who planted kales. He however later learnt that his brother had planted Napier grass alongside the kales without consulting him, provoking a fight between the two.

Daniel who was carrying a jembe then hit Clinton on his head he collapsed and died.

The area assistant chief Robert Okioga, narrated to KNA that after Daniel realized that his brother was dead he dragged the body to a nearby unfinished open pit latrine and dumped it there then later in same night removed it and placed it just adjacent to their main house.

“Early today, Daniel confessed to his mother about his heinous act and the mother’s screams attracted the attention of neighbors. A clan elder informed me about the incident on phone and I immediately called police officers from Nyamira police post who responded immediately and came to the scene of the incident,” Mr. Okioga narrated.

The suspect is in police custody and the body at Nyamira County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy.
