The Department of Health and Medical Services in Bomet has initiated a three-day training programme for Community Health Assistants (CHAs) focusing on community health basic modules.
This comprehensive training, which has brought CHAs from all five sub-counties, aims to enhance their knowledge, skills, and competence in delivering primary healthcare services.
County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health and Medical Services Dr. Joseph Sitonik lauded the CHAs for their unwavering commitment and dedication to serving the community.
“I applaud the team for their tireless efforts to serve the people in the community. Your dedication is vital in bettering the lives of our people through quality, efficient, and effective health services,” said Dr. Sitonik.
The training is designed to empower the CHAs with the requisite tools to function effectively in their roles, ultimately enhancing the overall health outcomes within the community.
The Director of Health Services Dr. Ronald Kibet underscored the importance of this initiative, stating, “Equipping our CHAs with comprehensive training ensures that they are well-prepared to address the diverse health needs of our communities. This training is a significant step towards achieving our goal of universal health coverage.”
The roles of CHAs are significant in promoting health and wellness at the grassroots level.
They provide essential services such as primary healthcare, health education, maternal and child health services, disease prevention and control, family planning, and referral services.
Their work extends to conducting community needs assessments and delivering outreach services to ensure that even the most remote households can access necessary healthcare.
By strengthening the capabilities of CHAs, the department aims to foster a robust primary healthcare network that can meet the evolving health needs of the community.
