A family from Merigi in Bomet County is pleading with the government to assist them in repatriation of their son’s remains, 27, Bernard Kiprotich Logoi who passed on last week in Alabama, United States of America.
The cause of his death has not yet been established as the family is waiting for the findings of a postmortem from the United States authorities.
According to his mother Agnes Langat, their son communicated with the family a day before he passed away and he was not showing any signs of illness so it came as a shock to them the following morning when they were informed of his death.
Speaking to the media, Paul Langat said their elder son went abroad in the year 2017 to study electronics and electrical engineering and was to graduate in two months before coming back home this December.
“My son informed us that he was to come home in December after graduation but we were shocked to learn of his demise. My family is traumatized with this tragic news,” explained his father.
The deceased scored an A of 86 points from Litein High school and secured a chance to pursue architecture in the University of Nairobi in the year 2014.
In his second year at the University of Nairobi, Lugoi secured a scholarship in one of the Universities in the United States in the year 2017 and left the country to go and pursue a degree in Electronic Engineering.
“My son was the hope of this family and the entire community of Merigi, a bright boy who scored a straight ‘A’ of 86 points that allowed him secure scholarship in the United States. We have suffered a huge loss as a community,” explained the distressed Lagat.
“My son was a good straight hardworking young man who had a bright future in front of him. We have lost him. As a family we are intending to rest him in line with our customs but we don’t have means to bring his body here by ourselves. That is why we are pleading with the government to assist us,” explained Mzee Lagat.
Lagat said the cost of repatriation of his son’s remains is estimated at Sh4M which he said was not within their means.
