Bomet builds fire station to boost disaster management

Bomet County Government has initiated the construction of a modern fire station in Bomet town to insulate the residents from unforeseen fire related disasters.

The ground breaking ceremony that was officiated by the Bomet Governor Prof Hillary Barchok yesterday marked the centralization of disaster management to reach all five Sub Counties.

Speaking during the function, Barchok said the management of disasters in the county would be drastically improved after the commissioning of the project later this year.

This comes in the wake of a fire emergency that razed down four shops at Kipisarwet shopping center, Nyongores Ward, over the weekend, where properties worth millions of shillings were lost.

Owners of the shops had blamed the disaster management team for slow response to such emergency.

Chepalungu Constituency Member of Parliament Victor Koech and Bomet Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir paid visit to the area and vowed to give financial assistance to the victims to enable them restart their businesses.

Stanley Mutai, the County Disaster Management Officer, said the centralization of disaster management team would boost response to emergencies even as the county purchased a modern fire truck 2022.

Mutai said other emergencies especially drowning, that has been rampant in the rainy seasons, had been taken care of following the training of county divers who he said were equipped with ultramodern diving gear.
