The County Assembly of Bomet adopted a motion tabled by Embomos Ward Representative Robert Serbai seeking to have the County Department of Transport and Public Works dispose of old and irreparable vehicles.
In the motion, seconded by Chemagel MCA Augustine Koskei, Serbai stated that there were a number of vehicles currently in garages in various places despite yearly budgetary allocation for repairs. Serbai stated that some of the vehicles were those inherited from the defunct County Council of Bomet.
While supporting the motion, Kembu MCA Joseph Kelong said there were over 50 vehicles in garages at various towns including Nairobi, Kisumu, Kericho, and Nakuru which were in poor conditions adding the cost of repairing them was higher than purchasing new ones.
Silibwet Township MCA Haron Kirui also supported the motion arguing the cost of repairing and maintaining such old and faulty vehicles would be too expensive and amounts to a waste of public money.
