Police in Mwatate have launched investigations after the body of an eight-year old child, who went missing on Christmas Day at an exclusive hotel was discovered floating in the hotel’s swimming pool.
The body was found on Boxing Day by the boy’s mother who had spent the night with well-wishers looking for her missing son.
According to the police, the boy had gone to celebrate Christmas at Shasha Camp Resort at Mto Mwagodi area in Mwatate with his family.
When evening came, the boy could not be traced. His clothes however were found beside the pool. A frantic search kicked off as hotel workers and panicked relatives made frantic efforts to find the missing boy. Reports say they searched in the pool but did not find him.
But in a bizarre twist, the body was found floating in the pool early Wednesday morning.
Police were alerted and they retrieved the body which is now lying at Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi waiting for postmortem.
Confirming the incident, Mwatate OCPD Monica Kimani said a probe had been started to establish the cause of death.
“We have started a probe into this unfortunate incident to determine what exactly happened,” she said.
Efforts to get a comment from management of the hotel were futile.
