Police in Suba North Sub-county have launched investigations into the death of a 13-year-old girl whose body was found dumped inside a thicket in Ruri West Sub-location of Homa-Bay County.
The body of the minor identified as Elizabeth Awino, a class five pupil at Ngodhe Primary School, was recovered near Koyani market in Seka ‘A’ village by a residents after went missing since Friday last week.
Confirming the incident to KNA, Assistant Chief of Ruri West Sub- location, Charles Oloo, said that they suspected that the minor could have been murdered elsewhere by unknown people who came and dumped her body in the thicket.
Oloo added that the minor was allegedly sent by her mother on the fateful day to a neighborhood home but she never came back home prompting the family members to start tracing her whereabouts.
The Administrator further said that one of the villagers who was passing near the thicket was attracted by a bad smell which was emanating from the bushes and upon moving closer inside, he was shocked to find the decomposing body of the minor and raised an alarm, attracting members of the public as well as the to the area administration.
He said that they have not yet established what could have happened that led to the minor’s death but his office is working together with Mbita Police Officers to investigate the mysterious death of the minor.
The body was taken to the Homa Bay Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
