BodaBoda riders, Youth train on Gender Based Violence

Ewagan Nadede Advocacy Initiative (ENAI) Africa together with Kenya Redcross have trained BodaBoda riders and Youth on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Narok County.

While addressing the press, Kishoyian Nadupoi, trainer in (ENAI) africa, said the organization helps in sensitizing on GBV, such as sexual harassment, early pregnancy, early marriages, Female Genital Mutilation and against drug abuse.

Nadupoi said that many girls have managed to go back to school and continue with their studies through the help of these training sessions.

Nadupoi challenged parents to be vigilant and mentor their children and advise appropriately on GBV especially when schools are closed.

Nadupoi said most GBV victims experience psychological trauma as they feel ashamed after defilement and rape, this affects the victims throughout their lives.

Nadupoi added that GBV is still a major contributing factor that is affecting the social-economic situation in the county.

“Don’t walk alone in dark places, dress well, avoid drug abuse and you will be on a safer side,” said Nadupoi

Lemayian Punyua, Narok Bodaboda Association chairman, said bodaboda riders were the ones being engaged mostly to carry students to their respective homes in towns and even back in villages and urged them to be vigilant to curb GBV.

Nick Pareyio, Narok Bodaboda Association coordinator, said people should come out and report GBV cases to be assisted at early stages.
