Boat engines stolen from Mageta Island recovered in Sindo

The  two boat engines stolen after fishermen from Kuoyo beach in Mageta Island Bondo sub-county were attacked in the waters of Lake Victoria one month ago have been recovered.

According to the Chairman of Kuoyo Beach Management Unit (BMU), Willis Opiyo Mbura, the engines were recovered at Sindo beach in Migori County  on Sunday evening.

He  stated that they also managed to arrest two suspects who are fishermen from Sindo beach and brought them together with the engines up to Kuoyo beach where they were later rescued from the hands of irate members of the public who wanted to lynch them.

Opiyo  told KNA that the suspects, Augustine Ochieng’ and Austine Ochieng’, were then taken together with the recovered boat engines, to Usenge police station where they were being held.

He stated that the suspects were found together with a third suspect, Olum Obiero who luckily escaped during the time of the arrest.

The chairman who confirmed the recovery and arrest stated that the owners of those engines went and positively identified them at the police station, adding that the suspects would be arraigned in court once the police were through with investigations into the matter.
