Bhang worth 30 million impounded in Nyahururu

A security multi-agency team led by the Nyahururu Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Anne Mitema has impounded sixty and a half bags of bhang estimated at Sh30 million.

According to the DCC, the multi-agency security team received a tip-off from the members of the public which led the team to a private forest located at Igwamiti Location in the outskirts of Nyahururu town.

The consignment which was concealed in a container and covered with iron sheets, to depict an ongoing construction site, was said to have been brought by the unknown dealer around one and a half months ago.

Addressing the media, the DCC said that was just the beginning of a serious operation to pin down all those who had vowed to destroy the youths and the community at large.

“I am very concerned because, from the proximity of this place to Laikipia University, it seems like the dealer had targeted to sell the bhang to university students.

“I want to caution any drug dealer in this region that our security intelligence is on the alert and we shall eventually make drug dealing a thing of the past. The earlier the dealers quit and start something legal to earn a living, the better,” said the DCC.

On her side, the Nyahururu Sub-county Police Commander, Jackline Njeri, vowed to crash those who are involved in the vice while at the same time promising to work on any tip given anonymously by the members of the public.

She further stated that DCI officers are working tirelessly to nab the owner of the consignment.

The container concealing the bhang together with the substance was ferried to Nyahururu police station awaiting Narcotics officials from Nakuru for sample analysis.
