The Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) on Monday received Sh.850, 000 from Betway Betting Company to facilitate the upcoming media tournament slated for December 14, 2019.
Speaking during the launch of the tournament in Nairobi, the SJAK President, Chris Mbaisi said the tournament will be for all media houses and 16 teams will be participating.
“According to the tournament rules each team must have ten members consequently every team is required to have ladies included failure to which a team without ladies will play with two members less,” said Mbaisi.
Further, Mbaisi stated that the event will not only include sports journalist but all journalists insisting that the tournament is exclusively for media practitioners.
Mbaisi mentioned that the tournament will incorporate several event such as soccer, tag of war, sack race, egg race and ball games and every event will have points which will determine the winning teams.
“The tournament will be at Kasarani sports arena and it will be a whole day affair,” he said.
The Betway Country Manager, Leon Kiptum said they are coming in to appreciate the work done by sports journalists.
“We want more of sports stories to be put out there for Kenyans to not only understand what sports is all about but to also participate actively,” said Kiptum.
Kiptum urged the journalists to continue writing and discovering sports stories and continually enlighten people of the diverse sports activities available apart from football and athletics.
