The Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) has recognised Beatrice Chebet, the world 10,000-metre’ record holder, as the Sports Personality of the Month of May, an award sponsored by LG and SJAK.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director (MD) for LG East Africa, Dongwon Lee, said that it was a great privilege to award Miss Beatrice Chebet since she stands as a great role model to the youths with her resilience and desire to lead and bear fruit on the global stage.
“We are here to recognise her achievement as we declare her the sports personality of the month for May 2024,” stated Lee.
He emphasised that the Sports Personality of the Month (SPOM) award allows LG Electronics, in conjunction with SJAK, to strengthen sports cohesion among sports champions and communities across diverse disciplines.
“It is very important to recognise exceptional talent, and Chebet is certainly deserving of the May award,” he opined.
While citing the third time in which Chebet has won the award, the MD urged her continued growth to be emulated by the rest.
In an interview, the new Sports Personality of the Month of May, Beatrice Chebet, said that she is grateful for the recognition and announced her participation in the trials for the Olympics in Paris, France, next month.
“I am glad that my sports profile has grown since 2017 until now, and I encourage the youth to take things slow and eventually achieve their goal,” she remarked while also advising her fellow competitors not to fear and endeavour to win.
