Baringo goat auction slated for next week

The 10th edition of Baringo Cultural Festival and the Kimalel Goat Auction has been rescheduled for Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th December 2024.

This is according to Baringo governor Benjamin Cheboi who announced the new dates for the decade old tradition, which will be presided over by President William Ruto during the second day by selling close to 4,000 goats.

Cheboi, who spoke during a press briefing in Kabarnet town on Tuesday urged residents and visitors to turn up in large numbers for the two-day event, which will kick off at Lake Baringo, starting with a boat competition that will take place concurrently, with a traditional music performance and youth extravaganza in the evening.

He stated that the renowned Kimalel goat auction which will take place the second day seeks to promote local livelihoods and showcase agricultural products accompanied by the naturally salty traditional Nyama Choma, which has gained popularity amongst visitors and locals.

The governor who was accompanied by his deputy Eng. Felix Kimaiyo and County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa stated that this year’s theme, “Utamaduni wetu, mifugo yetu, utajiri wetu” aims at showcasing the vibrant resilience and unity of Baringo communities.

“We are inviting all Kenyans and visitors to participate in this iconic event. Come and experience the best of Baringo culture, heritage and hospitality,” said Cheboi.

He pointed out that this year’s event will be unique in the sense that they are launching an online platform for clients to request for Baringo meat at the touch of a button and it shall be delivered to them across the country.

Cheboi at the same time assured farmers that they will get their payments within three days after the sale of goats and other meat products.
