The shortage of Birth Certificates has been cleared in Elgeyo Marakwet County following the issuance of 10,000 certificates as the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) came to a close.
The County Civil Registrar (CCR), Night Wafula said the certificates had already been uploaded into the system after the government hired casuals to help the department cope with the workload.
“Right now, we are only left with the work of printing the certificates,” the CCR told the county delivery services committee chaired by the Marakwet West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), John Otieno in Iten.
However, the Huduma Centre Manager, Rodah Mwanza said the centre, which has been distributing birth certificates to wananchi, has over 5,000 uncollected birth certificates.
The meeting called on wananchi who were yet to collect their birth certificates to visit their respective chiefs with their waiting slips so that the chiefs could compile their names and go collect their certificates.
Mwanza told the meeting that due to the information contained in the birth certificates, it was not possible to put them according to the locations.
The Chairperson reminded parents that they needed the document for their children to be registered for Huduma number, saying quite a number of children under 18 years were left out as the document was mandatory for the registration.
