Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Nyanza Branch has condemned a spate of assaults meted out on medical practitioners in various institutions in the country.
Addressing the press in Kisii town, KMPDU officials led by the branch’s Secretary General Dr Lameck Omweri called for unity of all medical practitioners in the fight against the assault menace saying the habit is taking root in public institutions.
The medical practitioners in particular condemned the recent assault of a female medical officer at Kisii Teaching and Refferal Hospital by a client.
Dr Jackline Nyaanga, the treasurer, condemned the act of clients who infringe on the rights of other people because of their influential connections.
Nyaanga appealed to the police to fast track investigations into the assault incident so that those found culpable could be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
KMPDU Nyanza chapter at the same time unanimously threw their support behind calls for constitutional referendum, adding that KMPDU advocates for a Health Services Commission in a bid to improve medical services in the country
