Asumbi Girls optimistic of winning the national ball games

Asumbi Girls School basketball team has expressed confidence of winning this year’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national ball games.

The team beat Ng’iya Girls 47-40 in the Nyanza regional finals held at St Joseph’s Rapogi Boys.

This year’s KSSSA national ball games will be held from April 7, 2025, at Shanzu Teachers College in Mombasa County.

Asumbi Girls basketball team captain Ryan Bahati said they were optimistic they will become the champion this year following the intense training they have been undertaking.

It is the first time the team is going to represent the Nyanza region in the basketball games at the national level.

“We are confident that we will emerge the winners at the national games. We are training hard to achieve our dream of representing Kenya in the East African ball games championships,” Bahati said.

The team is placed in pool B together with Butere Girls, Kaya Girls and MPESA Academy.

Player Aphline Judith said their good preparation enabled them to beat Ng’iya Girls in the regional games.

She assured their fans of winning this year’s national trophy.

“Asumbi is not a pushover; we are going to win this year’s national basketball games,” Judith said.

The team coach Ephraim Ochieng’ said they have polished their act after winning at the Nyanza regional level.

He said their morale had been boosted following the win, adding that they were working on their weak areas to enable them to beat rivals.

“I am confident that we are not going to disappoint our fans; we are prepared enough to face opponents,” Ochieng said.

The coach has been training the girls for the last two years.

The school Chief Principal Linet Pino Sati urged the girls to go for the national trophy, saying the school is fully supporting them.
