The National Construction Authority (NCA) has accredited hundreds of young artisans across various trades, enabling them to be considered for public works engagements.
The move will enable artisans to participate in various government projects, including affordable housing projects.
Ms. Dorice Aburi, Kisii Woman Rep, presided over the accreditation ceremony at Nduru High School, South Mugirango, aiming to alleviate the suffering faced by artisans who failed to prequalify for jobs.
She observed that despite acquiring skills, artisans were unable to secure government jobs due to a lack of NCA certification.
On the other hand, Aburi urged the government to offer jobs to the accredited artisans whenever Affordable Housing projects were undertaken in their areas.
The Women Rep suggested that artisan courses should incorporate essential subjects relevant to their daily activities to ensure their relevance in society.
Milgor Nancy, an assistant in training and capacity building at NCA, praised the artisans for their overwhelming turnout, thanks to the county women rep’s mobilization.
The accreditation was achieved through collaboration and partnership with stakeholders, and the willingness of site supervisors and artisans to participate in the exercise was appreciated.
Juveniles Oirere (Tailor) and Nicholas Anyona (Electrician) shared their experiences of the challenges they faced in obtaining their accreditation certificate.
The group condemned violent protests by youths demanding rights, suggesting they should avoid destructive protests and focus on obtaining accreditation certificates for self-advancement.
