Archbishop Anyolo named head of Nairobi Archdiocese

The Archbishop of Kisumu Diocese Rev. Phillip Anyolo has been appointed as the Archbishop of Nairobi Archdiocese by the Head of the Catholic Church Pope Francis.

The Archbishop-appointee takes over from the Archbishop Emeritus, John Cardinal Njue, who retired on 4th January 2021 after serving the Archdiocese for 13 years, leaving the Archdiocese under the guidance of Auxiliary Bishop David Kamau to serve as the Apostolic Administrator.

Pope Francis made the announcement in Rome, Wednesday 27th, October 2021 at noon, Rome time which is 1.00 p.m. in Kenya.

Rev. Anyolo who will be the fifth Archbishop of Nairobi Archdiocese was ordained priest on 15th October 1983. He was installed Bishop of Kericho Diocese on 6th December 1995 and later served in the same capacity in Homa Bay Diocese from 23rd May 2003 until his appointment as Archbishop for Kisumu on 15th November 2018.

Archbishop Anyolo hails from Tongeren in Bungoma County.
