The Christian faithful in the Anglican Diocese of Mt. Kenya Central will be contributing towards buying food for hunger-stricken people in Turkana and other arid parts of the country.
The Diocesan Bishop Rev. Timothy Gichere on Sunday called on all the faithful in the diocese to set aside some money to contribute next Sunday towards feeding-the- hungry mission work in the church.
In a Palm Sunday Pastoral letter read on his behalf to the congregation of St. James and All Martyrs Cathedral, Murang’a, the bishop said that all churches in the diocese will conduct a drive to collect donations on the Easter Sunday.
He said that Christians should embrace the spirit of helping the less fortunate and serve humanity selflessly urging them to emulate Jesus Christ who sacrificed himself for humanity.
The Cathedral Provost, Rev. Jane Karanja, asked the congregants to contribute in cash instead of actual food staff saying that it would be expensive to transport the foodstuff but money raised will be sent to the church missions in the concerned areas.
Days before Easter, emphasis is laid on Christians to deny themselves luxuries and help those in need as well as strive to do good always.
