Alleged Rapist police Appears in Court

A Machakos police officer arrested on suspicion of raping a female suspect was arraigned in a local court Monday to answer to sexual offences charges.
However, police constable Nesters Mwambai who is attached to Kikesa patrol base in Yatta Sub County did not take a plea when he appeared before the Kithimani Senior Resident magistrate Gilbert Sikwe following a request by the Yatta CID boss Masake Wanga who is leading the investigations into the matter to be given more time to complete the exercise.
Granting the request, the magistrate ordered the suspect be remanded at the Matuu Police Station until the April 14, when he will be presented before him to take a plea on the charges.
The constable was arrested Friday by his colleagues in the act after he dragged the 45 year old woman who had been summoned to the station in relation to an alleged stolen goat to his quarters, where he repeatedly raped her before she was rescued by other police officers.
Confirming the incident, Machakos county police Commander Karanja Muiruri condemned it and urged members of the public to view it as an act of a wayward individual rather than that of an entire police service.
He disclosed that medical examinations contacted on the victim had confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.
