All set for the 5th president swearing-in

The Assumption of the Office of the President Committee is set for a smooth transition from the outgoing to the incoming administration.

This will commence once the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) formally announces the results of the 9th August 2022 Presidential election and declares the President elect.

Briefing the media on the committee’s mandate at Harambee House grounds today, the Head of Public Service Dr. Joseph Kinyua, flanked by committee members, said the committee, established pursuant to Act No. 21 of the year 2012 and Article 141 of the Constitution, will facilitate the handling and handover of the process from the outgoing President to the President Elect.

Kinyua who had earlier chaired the inaugural meeting of the Assumption of the Office of the President committee in the morning said the primary Act of Parliament mandates the committee to organize for the security and to provide the necessary facilities and personnel for the President Elect.

“This committee is also required to coordinate the briefings of the President Elect by relevant public officers by facilitating communication between the two leaders, that is, outgoing President and the President Elect,” he added.

The Head of Public Service said the committee will also prepare the programme and organize the swearing-in ceremony of the President Elect as part of its mandate. “We will be making periodic briefings to the nation as the transition process kicks off,” he stated.
