The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), part of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), is set to begin on October 28 and conclude on October 30th.
According to the Kiambu County Education Director Simon Wanjohi, the number of candidates sitting for the KPSEA examinations in public schools is 34,809, while 16,598 candidates will sit for the exams in private schools
“ The examinations will be held in 1,043 registered centers across the county, with 459 in public schools and 584 in private schools”, he added
Speaking to KNA today, Wanjohi confirmed that all preparations are in place for the examinations next week and that transport arrangements and security measures to escort the examination papers are complete
Wanjohi further stated that, unlike in previous KCSE examinations, no security officers will be permitted in the examination rooms during the KPSEA exams to help minimize malpractices.
“All personnel, including supervisors and invigilators, have received briefings on security protocols and how to address any issues that may arise during the exams,” the Director said
Wanjohi acknowledged that the CBC is more engaging than the 8-4-4 system, as it aligns with learners’ interests and passions adding: “In the Competency Based Curriculum, students are nurtured in their fields of interest and encouraged to develop to their highest potential.”
Speaking to KNA, Loise Nyambura Muturi, a Kiambu Town resident and a parent commended the Kiambu County government for the recent completion of 109 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers, as well as the 138 additional ECDE centers currently underway.
“We thank our governor Kimani Wamatangi for promoting key developments in the education sector, particularly through his `Leave No Child Behind program,” she said.
The Kenya National Examination Council released the timetable for the KPSEA that will be conducted in three days. On Monday October 28, students will sit for Mathematics and English, followed by the Integrated science and Kiswahili on Tuesday October 29th.
The exams will end on Wednesday October 30th with creative arts and social studies.
Nationwide, a total of 1,303,913 candidates will participate in the KPSEA across 35,573 centers.
