Agriculture CAS lauds Busia for increasing forest cover

The Chief Administrative Secretary for Agriculture Lawrence Omuhaka has hailed Busia County, especially Teso North Sub County, for its efforts to increase its forest cover.

Omuhaka noted that the County was not doing very well in terms of forest cover but more efforts were however being put in place to change the situation.

“Teso North is fairly good but the lower part of the County including Bunyala, Funyula and the lower side of Teso South are not good enough but if we continue like this the forest cover will increase,” he said.

He stated that the county has planted a total of 6,000 tree seedlings during this rainy season alone.

“Today we have planted 1,000 tree seedlings,” he said, adding that 5,000 more seedlings were planted in the County on May 18 this year.

The official urged the local residents to plant more trees to improve the environment, explaining that trees will attract more rains.

Omuhaka disclosed that a total of 400,000 tree seedlings have been planted across the country during this rainy season.

Busia County Commissioner John Korir also urged the local residents to plant more trees adding that it is the greatest legacy that they can make in life.
