Attorney General (AG) Justin Muturi has called for unity among leaders in Embu County and the country at large to foster peaceful coexistence and economic development.
He said no meaningful growth can be realised in an environment characterised by in-fighting, saying it will only serve to hamper the implementation of any meaningful development.
Speaking on Thursday during the burial of renowned educationist and businessman Mwalimu Cosmas Kathungu, 73, at his Ugweri home in Runyenjes Constituency, the AG regretted that the County had nothing much to show for the last ten years of devolution as a result of leadership wrangles.
“It is a pity that we have witnessed ten good years being wasted in Embu since the advent of devolution,” he said while calling for harmony among leaders for the sake of the people.
He pledged support for the current Governor Cecily Mbarire led administration, saying she meant well for the people of Embu.
He said she was up to the task in turning around the fortunes of the entire County and called on other leaders and residents to rally behind her.
“Let us support this administration, I am sure Governor Mbarire will not let you down and for sure we are destined for greater things in the County,” he said.
Governor Mbarire said her main agenda was to develop the County and ensure living standards of the people were scaled up and said she was ready to work with everybody in pursuit of this goal.
Mourners who spoke during the burial paid glowing tribute to the late Mwalimu Kathungu who they termed as a great mentor to many in the County and who he said was very instrumental in bringing leaders together.
