An acute shortage of drugs has hit Masalani sub county hospital in Garissa county forcing poor patients to travel far and wide to purchase drugs from private pharmacies.
Sources at the hospital indicated that not even panadols were available and besides other non pharmaceuticals were also lacking.
A spot check by KNA at the hospital established that patients were also sharing beds and so were expectant mothers at the maternity ward.
Contacted, Masalani Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Kassim Ahmed attributed the problem to failure by the Kenya medical supplies agency (KEMSA) to supply drugs and non-pharmaceuticals to the facility.
On the other hand, the Hospital Medical Board Chairman, Adan Ali appealed to Garissa Governor, Ali Korane to intervene and have the facility supplied with drugs to ease patients’ suffering.
Ali at the same time, asked the Board secretary to call an urgent meeting to address the issue wondering why he had not done so since they assumed office.
